Biographie

Autodidacte, je suis une artiste photographe et cinéaste franco-canadienne basée à Saguenay, au Québec.

Très jeune, j'ai commencé à photographier mon quotidien. Mes amies, mon chat, ma chambre, mon chat dans ma chambre, mon chat dehors, mon chat dans la cuisine, mon chat avec mes amies... toujours avec passion.

C'est en 2016 que je commence à expérimenter les possibilités de la photographie argentique grâce au polaroid dans un premier temps, puis grâce au film. En 2019, j'ouvre mon horizon en intégrant l'image en mouvement dans mes créations.

En 2021, je décide de me consacrer professionnellement à ma pratique artistique. Cette année-là, je suis sélectionnée par Vidéographe pour bénéficier d’un soutien à la réalisation du poème vidéo Opaline.

En 2022, je suis finaliste pour le Prix Nouvelles écritures de la photographie environnementale décerné par le Festival Photo La Gacilly et Fisheye Magazine.

Cette même année, mon premier film et premier essai documentaire, Sainte-Croix, distribué par le GIV, fait partie de la sélection officielle du festival de documentaire québécois Vues sur mer (Gaspé), du Festival Oodaaq (France) et du festival Fisura (Mexique).

Toujours en 2022, la Table de concertation interrégionale en cinéma m'accorde une aide pour la création du documentaire Maison de paille. Je bénéficie également d'une bourse du Conseil des arts du Canada pour la post-production du poème vidéo Opaline.

Démarche artistique

Travailler la physicalité de l’image constitue le point de départ de mes projets. Je laisse rarement une photographie dans son état d’origine et conserve volontiers des marques physiques d’interventions, rappelant au spectateur que l’art est aussi une affaire d’ouvrage. Les altérations que j’effectue sont variées et peuvent prendre place lors du développement, du tirage, ou de la numérisation. Le collage, la peinture ou le mordançage sont des techniques artisanales couramment utilisées au cours de mon processus créatif.

Mon intention première est de créer des images qui revendiquent une poétique de la photographie au service d’idées. Inspirée par l’histoire de la photographie traditionnelle et l’art expérimental, je souhaite éveiller l’intérêt du spectateur au sujet par une plasticité affirmée qui vient stimuler le regard et activer l’imaginaire.

Au cœur de mes œuvres, la réalité se mêle au récit fictionnel et à celui de ma propre histoire. L’usage de la fiction et de la poésie joue un rôle important dans mon travail pour proposer une nouvelle porte d’accès au réel. Sortir le médium photographique de son usage convenu est une façon de questionner la réalité observable et la subjectivité de notre regard.

En images fixes ou en mouvement, mes œuvres tissent des réflexions sur la nature, le paysage et l'humain. La photographie est devenue, pour moi, un moyen de questionner les représentations idéalistes voire idylliques des paysages naturels et urbains de notre époque.

Biography

Self-taught, I am a French-Canadian artist photographer and filmmaker based in Saguenay, Quebec.

At a very young age, I started to photograph my daily life. My friends, my cat, my room, my cat in my room, my cat outside, my cat in the kitchen, my cat with my friends... always with passion.

It was in 2016 that I started experimenting with the possibilities of silver photography thanks to polaroid at first, then thanks to film. In 2019, I open my horizon by integrating the moving image in my creations.

In 2021, I decide to devote myself professionally to my artistic practice. That year, I am selected by Vidéographe to benefit from a support for the realization of the video poem Opaline.

In 2022, I am a finalist for the Nouvelles écritures de la photographie environnementale prize awarded by the Festival Photo La Gacilly and Fisheye Magazine.

That same year, my first film and first documentary essay, Sainte-Croix, distributed by GIV, is partof the official selection of the Quebec documentary festival Vues sur mer (Gaspé), the Festival Oodaaq (France) and the Fisura Festival (Mexico).

Also in 2022, the Table de concertation interrégionale en cinéma gives me a support for the creation of the documentary Maison de paille. I also received a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts for the post-production of the video poem Opaline.

Statement

Working on the physicality of the image is the starting point of my projects. I rarely leave a photograph in its original form and like to keep physical marks of interventions, reminding the viewer that art is also a matter of craft. The alterations I make are varied and can take place during development, printing, or scanning. Collage, painting or mordançage are common craft techniques used in my creative process.

My primary intention is to create images that claim a poetics of photography in the service of ideas. Inspired by the history of traditional photography and experimental art, I wish to awaken the viewer's interest in the subject through a plasticity that stimulates the eye and activates the imagination.

In my work, reality is mixed with fictional narrative and with my own story. The use of fiction and poetry plays an important role in my work in order to propose a new way of accessing reality. Taking the photographic medium out of its conventional use is a way of questioning observable reality and the subjectivity of our gaze.

In still or moving images, my works weave reflections on nature, landscape and the human being. Photography has become, for me, a way of questioning the idealistic or even idyllic representations of natural and urban landscapes of our time.
